Your Bookshelf, Down Under: TroveScore Is Now in Australia

Every Australian bookshelf has a story. The paperbacks that came home sandy from a summer at the beach. The school-holiday series you read until the spines gave out. The book a friend pressed into your hands and told you to read, right now. TroveScore is now available in Australia: photograph a shelf, and it tells you what your books are worth in Australian dollars, helps you pass on the ones you’re done with, and turns the rest into a library you can be proud of.

One photo, and your shelf has a story

Point your phone at a shelf and take one photo. TroveScore identifies the books in it, finds each one’s details, and prices them against what they’re selling for on eBay Australia, in Australian dollars. No typing ISBNs, no app to install, and you don’t need an account to try it.

Every book gets a suggestion: sell it, donate it, or keep it. You decide what stays. In a couple of minutes you know which few are worth listing, and you can keep the rest with a clear conscience.

Christmas in summer, on your shelf

Here, Christmas means thongs, a pav on the table, and a stack of books for the long days after. Your Showcase can look the part. A Showcase is your collection on a page of its own, standing on shelves like the real thing, with a link you can send to anyone. Pick a colour theme, choose a wallpaper for the wall, and stand a few pieces of decor between the books.

For the season we’ve added two new pieces of decor: a pavlova and a pair of thongs. Pair them with the Waves wallpaper and the waves roll gently behind your books all summer. Decor stays wherever you put it, so the pav can stay out long after Boxing Day. There’s an Australian flag to stand on the shelf too. In Australia the pavlova and the flag are free; the thongs and Waves come with Patron.

A summer of reading, counted

Summer holidays are reading season, and they don’t fit neatly in one calendar year. Mark a book as read on TroveScore (a month and a year is all it asks) and your reading year keeps count: how many books, how they spread across the months, and how close you are to a goal if you set one. Trophies arrive along the way, earned by reading, never bought.

When the year’s done, “Shareable Image” turns it into one picture for your group chat, your book club, or the family member who swears they read more than you.

“Do I already have this one?”

Every reader has stood at an op shop shelf, a Lifeline Bookfest table or a street library, holding a book and wondering whether it’s already at home. Book Check answers that in a few seconds: type the title, and it searches your own library, including books you’ve sold or given away. No more doubling up. If you want it, add it to your Trove or save it to your wishlist.

Passing books on

For the books you’re done with, TroveScore points out the ones worth selling and lists them on eBay Australia in a tap, priced in Australian dollars with postage already filled in. You can change any of it before it goes live. And eBay Australia lets people with up to A$25,000 in sales over the past 12 months sell without final value fees, so clearing your own shelves usually costs you nothing in eBay fees. The rest can go to an op shop, a library book sale or the street library on your block, where somebody else gets to find them.

Not ready yet in Australia: matching your donations to a specific local library or school. That covers US institutions only for now, so Australian users see a note that it isn’t available in their area. Scanning, pricing, listing on eBay Australia, your Showcase and your reading year all work today.

Free to start, and yours to keep

Everything above starts free, with no app to install, and nothing you add is ever deleted. Your books, your reading and your Showcase stay yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TroveScore work in Australia?
Yes. When TroveScore detects you are in Australia it prices your books against live eBay Australia listings in Australian dollars, and any listing you create is published to ebay.com.au. If it guesses your country wrong, set it in Settings → Account → Country.
Is TroveScore free in Australia?
Yes. Scanning, prices, the sell, donate or keep suggestion, eBay listing, Book Check, your Showcase, this year’s reading page and every reading trophy are part of the free account. Free accounts have a scan limit and a book limit; the current numbers are on the pricing page. Patron is an optional membership for bigger libraries and more Showcase looks.
Does eBay charge fees to sell books in Australia?
Not for most people clearing their own shelves. eBay Australia lets sellers based in Australia with up to A$25,000 in sales over the past 12 months sell on ebay.com.au without final value fees. Above that, eBay moves you to a Pro plan, which does charge them. eBay’s own fees page has the current rules.
Can TroveScore find a library or school to donate my books to in Australia?
Not yet. Donation matching currently covers US libraries and schools only, so Australian users see a note that it is not available in their area. For the books you are passing on, an op shop, a library book sale or a street library on your block are all good homes.
Is the Christmas decor only there in December?
No. Shelf decor stays on your Showcase until you move it, so a pavlova can sit beside your beach reads all year if you like.
