Your books

Scanning, finding the books you scanned, and taking a copy with you.

Why isn't my scan finding all my books?

Most missed books come down to the photo. For the best results:

  • Use good, even light. Avoid glare on glossy covers and strong shadows.
  • Hold steady. If we warn that the photo looks blurry, retake it.
  • Fit one shelf or stack per photo, close enough that the titles are readable.
  • For a book we keep missing, photograph its barcode on its own. The ISBN is the most reliable way to find it.

Sometimes the photo is fine and the book still isn't found. We look books up in public book sources such as Google Books and Open Library, and now and then an ISBN or a title simply isn't listed there. That is more common with very new, very old, self-published, or small-press books.

I scanned on my phone and signed in somewhere else. Where are my books?

They're not lost. Books you scan before signing in are saved to the browser you scanned with. They move into your account once that browser is connected to it.

  • You scanned by pointing your phone at the QR code on your computer: sign in on that computer. If you're asked to add your phone's books, say yes. If you skipped that and the books still aren't there, go to Settings → Account → Connected Devices and choose Add devices.
  • You opened TroveScore directly on your phone: open it again on that phone, in the same browser, and sign in with the same Google or Apple account. The books move into your account and show up everywhere you're signed in.

Until you sign in, clearing that browser's data or scanning in a private window can lose those books. Signing in is what makes them permanent.

How do I check whether I already have a book?

Open Book Check (the magnifying glass at the top of every page) and type a title, an author or an ISBN, then tap Check. On a phone or tablet you can also tap the barcode button beside the box and point the camera at the barcode on the back of the book: that is faster, and it matches the exact edition. Your browser asks to use the camera the first time. You need to be signed in.

Book Check looks through your whole library, including books you sold, donated, removed or only borrowed, so it can tell you "you had this" as well as "you have this". Under Online book database, tap Search now to look a book up when it isn't in your Trove.

From a book you don't have, Add to Trove saves it without scanning it. It doesn't use one of your scans, but it does count toward your book limit. If you tapped it by mistake, tap Undo. Check value shows what used copies are selling for on eBay, and it's free. See how limits work.

How do I keep a list of books I want?

Look the book up in Book Check and tap Add to Wishlist. It goes on your wishlist, which you'll find in your Trove under the Wishlist filter. You need to be signed in.

Each wishlist book has a link to find it on eBay. When you get the book, tap I own it now and it becomes one of your own books; scanning it does the same. Tap Remove if you change your mind.

Scanned a book in a shop or at a friend's, so it's in your Trove but isn't yours? Open the book and tap Move to my wishlist. Your rating and review stay with it.

Wishlist books are private: they don't appear on your Showcase. They count toward your book limit, and they are not part of your Trove's count or value. See how limits work.

How do I download a list of my books?

Open your Trove, tap the gear icon at the top, and choose Download trove. You can pick Excel or CSV and include books you've already sold or donated. The file includes your own take on each book: reading status, when you finished it, your rating, and your review. You need to be signed in to download.

Account & privacy

What others can see, and how to leave.

How do I make my Showcase private or hide a book?

  • Hide the whole page: go to Trove → Showcase → Sharing and turn off Make showcase public. Visitors to your link will no longer see your books, and they stay in your Trove.
  • Hide one book: open it in your Trove and switch off Shown on Showcase.

Books you own appear unless you hide them. Books you've read but don't own (library books, and books you've sold or given away) appear once you mark them finished; to leave all of those off, go to Trove → Showcase → Design and turn off Show books I've read but don't own.

Can't sign in? Use the contact form, pick the category for not being able to sign in, and include the email address you sign in with (the one on your Google or Apple account). Include your Showcase link too.

How do I change the colors of my Showcase?

Pick a theme. A theme sets the colors of your Showcase together: the wall, the shelves and the text, so the page always stays easy to read.

You can change your theme as often as you like. Not signed in yet? You can still try themes on your preview; sign in and make your Showcase public to keep one.

How do I put decor on my Showcase shelves?

You can stand pieces of decor, like a coffee or a plant, between the books on your Showcase. You arrange them on your Showcase page itself, so you see exactly where they go.

  • Open your Trove's Showcase tab and tap Arrange beside Shelf decor, or tap Arrange decor at the top of your Showcase page.
  • Drag a piece from the tray at the bottom up onto the shelf, wherever you want it. Or tap it, and it goes onto the start of your top shelf.
  • Move it where you like. On a computer, drag it. On a phone or tablet, press and hold it for a moment, then drag. The arrow keys move a selected piece too.
  • To take one off, drag it back onto the tray, or tap it and tap the red ×.
  • Tap Save when you are finished. Every change is also saved as you go.

Every account can place four pieces, and the same piece more than once. A piece stays beside the book you put it next to, even when someone visiting sorts your shelf another way. Decor is hidden while a visitor searches or filters your books.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in and go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate. Here's what gets deleted and what's kept.

Delete button not showing? You still have live eBay listings. We can't delete an account while it has items for sale, because buyers could still purchase them. End them from your Trove or on eBay, then come back.

Can't sign in? Use the contact form, pick the category for not being able to sign in, and include the email address you sign in with (the one on your Google or Apple account). We will process your request within 30 days.

Selling on eBay

Only if you list books on eBay through TroveScore.

TroveScore turned on Business Policies in my eBay account. Can I turn it off?

Yes. The first time you list through TroveScore, we turn on eBay's business policies (reusable payment, postage, and returns settings) for your account. eBay requires them for listings created by apps like ours. It's free and doesn't change your fees.

To turn it off, find the business policies setting in your eBay account's selling preferences and opt out.

The catch: your next listing through TroveScore turns it back on. eBay offers no other way for us to create the listing. If you want it off for good, list directly on eBay instead.

I moved, or switched to an eBay account in another country. What do I do?

We record your eBay country when you connect your account, and we don't see later changes. So after any change, go to Settings → Social → Selling Accounts, disconnect, and reconnect. Not every country is supported yet. If yours isn't, listings use US settings.

  • Same eBay account, new address: just reconnect. Your existing listings aren't affected, and you can still end them from TroveScore.
  • A different eBay account: first end your listings from the old account on eBay. TroveScore holds one eBay connection at a time. Once you connect the new account, we can no longer reach listings made under the old one.
